Sustainability Efforts at Hotel Kabuki
Hotel Kabuki is committed to promoting sustainability without sacrificing quality of service. One thing they have implemented that has noticeably reduced energy consumption is GreenSwitch. Guests insert their room key into a device in the room that will turn on the electricity. When a guest leaves the room and takes their key with them, the devices will automatically power down since they are not being used. Other initiatives they are taking include things like recycling newspapers, energy-efficient lighting, water-conserving showerheads and faucets, composting food waste, and donating leftover soaps, shampoos and lotions to the "Clean the World" foundation.
Community Support from Joie de Vivre Hotels
As  part of the Joie de Vivre "You Can Make a Difference" program, the hotel will add one dollar per night per guest room to donate to the National Japanese American Historical Society that is based in San Francisco's Japantown. It's mission is "dedicated to the collection, preservation, authentic interpretation, and sharing of historical information of the Japanese American experience for the diverse broader national and  global community." Guests have the option to choose not to make this donation.
