The
Snowpine
Lodge, located at Alta Ski Area in Utah, offers guests
ski-in/ski-out accommodation in a charming mountain setting. This 21-room lodge
feels more like a home than a hotel, with four spacious lounges that provide
guests with the chance to unwind on comfortable leather couches in front of a
fireplace while watching a large flat-screen TV, select a book from the large
collection and snuggle up in front of the fire with a cozy blanket, or hang out
in the game room and play a board or card game with the kids or watch one of
your child's favorite DVD movies. The Snowpine Lodge provides a comfortable and
convenient winter escape. The resort is located about 30 miles from Salt Lake
City International Airport, which is about a 45-minute drive. Snow tires and
four-wheel drive are recommended.
Rooms

- Blue-Ray/DVD Player
- Flat Screen TV

more comfortable, but it prevents snow being tracked through the hotel.)
Dining
at Snowpine Lodge
Breakfast
and dinner are conveniently included with the price of the room and are served
in the dining room -- with views of the Alta Ski Area. This means no driving to
get meals, which is really handy when the roads are closed due to snow
conditions. The lodge does not offer a snack shop.
Guests
can fuel up for a full day of skiing by indulging in the breakfast buffet that
typically includes items such as pancakes or waffles, scrambled eggs, sausage
or bacon, yogurt, fresh fruit, granola, oatmeal, bagels, coffee, tea, water and
juice. The Alta Ski Area offers nearly a dozen lunch options located throughout
the mountain. For an après ski snack, in the afternoon guests can help
themselves to warm cookies, fresh fruit, coffee, hot cocoa or water. Alcohol is
available upon request. Each night, guests are treated to a four-course dinner
that includes soup or salad, appetizer, main dish and dessert. Guests select
items from a limited menu that is prepared fresh daily by the in-house chef.
Menu items might include things such as Smoked Salmon Nicoise, Duck Confit
Torchon, Pan Seared Sablefish, or Pho Chay. There is always a vegetarian item
available.
Hotel
Amenities at Snowpine Lodge
A
great way to unwind after a hard day of skiing is to take a soak in the
on-property hot tub, or warm up at the outdoor fire pit. For a more relaxing
experience, the lodge does have a spa treatment room where guests can book a
massage.
Skiing
at Alta and Snowbird
As
far as access to the Alta Ski Area, the Snowpine Lodge makes it
easy. Guests can literally ski from the backdoor onto the ski runs. Alta is a
skier-only resort. Lifts run from 9:15 a.m.-4:30 p.m. The resort has 116 runs
covering 2,200 acres, and over 2,000 feet of vertical drop. The elevation ranges
from 8,530 to 10,550 feet. After a day of hitting the slopes, guests can catch
the rope tow to get back up to the Snowpine Lodge. At the lodge, guests can
leave their skis and poles in the ski room located right off the slopes, store
their ski boots in the heated storage cabinet, put their gloves, goggles, and
helmets in the bin with their room number, hang their ski jackets on the coat
rack, and slip into their slippers to head up to their room -- without having
to lug their gear.
For
those wanting to give Snowbird a try, the Snowpine Lodge offers a
private shuttle, upon request. Snowbird is located just a few miles down the
road and is open to snowboarders. Snowbird has 85 runs on 2,500 acres and has a
125-person tram.
