Looking for an introductory backpacking spot? Check out the Little Lakes Valley in the Eastern Sierra. The valley features a string of lakes. Heart Lake, which is a 1 1/2-mile hike, is easy to reach and a great fishing spot. It's well worth the six-hour drive from Orange County.
